We are delighted to announce that the Physiotherapy Board of Australia has reappointed the Australian Physiotherapy Council to continue  as the accrediting authority for the physiotherapy profession for a 5-year period from 1 July 2019 to 30 June 2024.

National Boards and AHPRA have recently completed a scheduled review of accreditation arrangements.  Accreditation standards help ensure that Education Providers and their programs give students the knowledge, skills and professional attributes to competently practise in the profession in Australia.

The review informed National Board decisions about the assignment of accreditation functions from mid-2019, when the current term ends.

In making their determination, the Physiotherapy Board of Australia (“Board”) took into account a range of factors including:

• the multi-profession analysis of performance of the accreditation functions over the past 5 years;
• the Council’s regular reports against the Quality Framework;
• the Council’s progress in improving efficiency and decreasing the costs involved in accreditation services;
• the substantial growth in programs from 15 providers offering 22 programs in 2010 to 20 providers on 27 campuses offering 39 programs in 2018 (54 if we include Honours programs);
• the development of an international reputation for accreditation of Physiotherapy programs as well as partnering with jurisdictions in New Zealand to perform accreditation services with their three Universities; and
• the Board’s experience of the Council’s performance

The Council has worked tirelessly to provide an improved service to our University partners, whilst at all times maintaining the exacting standards for the physiotherapy profession.  The Council remains ever committed to looking for  innovative ways to improve its service through the use of technology and collaboration with our Education Providers.
