The World Physiotherapy Congress 2025 in Tokyo was more than just an event — it was a powerful reminder of the global community we are part of as physiotherapists.
As the Australian Physiotherapy Council, we were proud to stand alongside colleagues from over 120 countries, all united by a shared commitment to advancing the profession and improving health outcomes. These connections matter — not just for today, but for the future of physiotherapy.
Attending the Congress reaffirmed the importance of international collaboration in shaping consistent, high-quality standards, education and accreditation across the world. When we work together across borders, we help create a more mobile, adaptable, and resilient global workforce — one that can respond to evolving healthcare needs with confidence and compassion.
It was especially inspiring to see how physiotherapists are leading within multidisciplinary teams, making a real difference in patient outcomes in diverse settings — from acute hospitals to aged care, from rehabilitation to community-based health. We were reminded that our collective voice, when amplified globally, can advocate powerfully for the role of physiotherapists in the future of healthcare.
Alongside the professional connections, it was a great opportunity to explore the diverse and beautiful country of Japan. From the warmth of local hospitality to the rich cultural traditions, and of course, the incredible food — each experience was unique and memorable. Several of our team even had the rare privilege of seeing clear views of Mt Fuji, a truly breathtaking sight that made the trip all the more special.
As we returned to Australia, we carry with us new ideas, stronger relationships, and a deepened sense of purpose. We look forward to continuing our work with international partners to build a future where physiotherapists everywhere are supported, recognised, and empowered to lead in delivering better health for all.
The Council remains committed to fostering these global ties — because when we collaborate across borders, we raise the standard of care everywhere.
