This year’s World Physiotherapy Day on Tuesday 8 September, recognises the vitally important role of physiotherapists in treating and rehabilitating COVID-19 patients.
As the international community grapples with the far reaching impact of COVID-19 on so many facets of our daily lives, the Council joins in the recognition and heartfelt gratitude for physiotherapists, and more broadly all healthcare workers in serving our communities and responding to the health challenges the virus has presented.
Recently the Council’s CEO, Anton Barnett-Harris spoke with Fiona McKinnon, General Manager of Allied Health and Pharmacy, and Chief Health Officer at the St Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne in the lead up to World Physiotherapy Day on 8 September 2020. We are grateful for Fiona’s time, and helping us to gain a deeper appreciation for the role of physiotherapy in the treatment and rehabilitation of COVID-19 patients.
We invite you to watch this 12 minute video, which is part of a longer conversation, where you’ll hear some of the insights and experiences of those healthcare professionals on the frontline in one of Melbourne’s larger hospitals. This conversation was filmed during Melbourne’s Stage 4 severe restrictions, as our hospitals coped with the 2nd wave of positive COVID-19 cases in Melbourne, Victoria.
