The Council is delighted to advise that from 30 November 2017 all overseas qualified physio candidates who undergo the assessment process for General Registration with the Council are now automatically entitled to free membership and insurance with the Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA). As it is an “opt out” system, you can now indicate via your relevant application form if you don’t want your details forwarded to the APA for the purposes of free membership and insurance.
If you choose not to opt out however, you will be automatically covered by the insurance and become APA members as soon as your application is accepted by the APA.
This exciting collaboration between the Council and APA is designed to provide you – overseas qualified physios – with a community, services and invaluable tools during the assessment process which will aid in your transition into the Australian physiotherapy profession.
The APA is the peak body representing the interests of Australian physiotherapists and their patients. The organisation has more than 24,500 members and over 300 members in volunteer positions on committees or working parties.
Under the APA member insurance program, overseas qualified physio candidates will receive insurance coverage for any activities directly associated with the Assessment process or while practicing under the supervision of a registered physiotherapist.
Members will receive $20 million professional indemnity, public and products liability coverage included in their membership.
