The Australian Physiotherapy Council partnered with universities to roll out refreshed accreditation standards with clarity, collaboration and confidence.
Introducing refreshed Accreditation Standards is a change journey for education providers, accreditation panels and everyone involved in supporting high-quality physiotherapy education.
For the Council, that journey has been guided by one clear priority: making the transition practical, consistent and collaborative.
The refreshed standards make accreditation clearer, simpler and more efficient for universities, while delivering value through education accreditation.
A steady and supportive rollout
The Council focused on giving universities the information, time and support they need to understand the refreshed standards and apply them within their own physiotherapy programs.
This has included practical guidance, explanatory videos and direct conversations to help providers work through what has changed, what the standards require and how they connect to future accreditation activity.
The aim was to reduce uncertainty, build shared understanding and support a smoother transition for universities preparing to embed the refreshed standards.
Supporting universities through change
Universities play a critical role in preparing the next generation of physiotherapists. The Council recognises that each education provider operates within its own context, with different program structures, clinical partnerships, student cohorts and community needs.
Through ongoing engagement, the Council has helped universities interpret the refreshed standards, understand expectations and prepare for accreditation activity with greater confidence.
Our approach supports shared understanding and helps education providers focus on what matters most: delivering high-quality physiotherapy education that prepares graduates for safe, effective and culturally responsive practice.
Training accreditation panels for consistency
To maintain consistent accreditation services during the transition, panel members were trained at the Council’s annual training workshop. The training clarified the purpose of the refreshed standards and their practical application.
This helps panel members prepare to assess programs consistently, fairly and constructively.
It also gave panel members an opportunity to develop a shared understanding, explore practical application and improve the quality and consistency of accreditation decisions.
Partnership in action
In its accreditation role, the Council upholds standards that protect the public and build confidence in physiotherapy education.
Through a steady, supportive rollout, the Council is helping universities understand, embed and consistently apply the refreshed standards to strengthen education quality, graduate readiness and community outcomes.
