If you’re getting ready for the Australian Physiotherapy Entry Pathway (APEP), the best place to start is with the Council’s official guidance. The candidates who do well understand the pathway, know what each stage is assessing and prepare in a focused way.

APEP helps international physiotherapists move towards practice in Australia through remote assessments and a final in-person Clinical Workshop in Melbourne. It’s designed to be structured and accessible, but success still comes down to preparation. The strongest candidates don’t rely on shortcuts. They use the right resources, understand what’s expected and practise with purpose.

Start with official resources

Your first step should be the Council’s website and Candidate Portal. That’s where you’ll find the information booklets, FAQs and videos for the Written Assessment, Capability Assessment and Clinical Workshop. These resources can help you on what to expect and how to prepare. The Council does not endorse any third-party coaching, so it makes sense to build your preparation around official information from the beginning and avoid misinformation.

Know what you’re being assessed on

APEP is not just about recalling information. It assesses the skills you need for real practice in Australia, including clinical skills, reasoning, communication, safety and professionalism. That means showing you can think clearly, make safe decisions, explain your reasoning and communicate effectively.

Prepare for each stage in the right way

For the Written Assessment, read the Information Booklet carefully and use the practice test once you’ve applied and paid. This will help you understand the format and the skills being assessed, including knowledge, problem-solving and decision-making.

For the Capability Assessment, be ready for an online oral exam based on short and long form clinical cases. You’ll need to demonstrate knowledge, clinical reasoning, communication, safety and professionalism.

For the Clinical Workshop, come ready to take part, work with others and demonstrate the clinical skills needed for safe and effective physiotherapy practice.

Confidence comes from good preparation

The better prepared you are, the more confident you’re likely to feel. Knowing what to expect and what’s required can help you approach your assessment with a clearer mind and greater focus.
