Hire international physiotherapists with confidence, they meet Australian standards and are work ready.
The Council’s assessment pathways are designed to provide the physiotherapy profession with practitioners who meet the entry-level standards for physiotherapy practice in Australia. These pathways have been developed to ensure a robust, consistent and fair process, ensuring that all candidates who have completed a Council assessment pathway are fit to practice at the required standard of an entry level Australian physiotherapist.
Our pathways not only assess international physiotherapists' skills and knowledge, but also help them prepare, such as the Cultural Safety Training course, to practice safely and effectively as a physiotherapist in Australia.
The Australian physiotherapy profession has a strong reputation for its evidence-based quality of care. This attracts diverse physiotherapists from across the world who wish to join our profession. They bring a variety of competencies, specialist capabilities and experiences from various clinical settings.
What is a Final Certificate from the Council?
As a healthcare employer, you can trust that the Council’s assessments are the only pathways which ensure overseas qualified physiotherapists meet Australia’s entry-level standards of practice, just as graduates from Australian universities do. When overseas qualified physiotherapists successfully pass all their assessments, the Council issues them with a Final Certificate, which enables them to apply for General Registration with Ahpra.
We are confident that all candidates who receive a Final Certificate from the Australian Physiotherapy Council meet the minimum requirements to practice safely and effectively as an Australian physiotherapist. Australian employers can then hire overseas trained physiotherapists with confidence that they can provide high quality physiotherapy services to their patients.
The Council is proud to partner with the Australian physiotherapy profession and healthcare system to uphold the quality, safety and standards of physiotherapy, and serve the healthcare needs of our communities.
