Council CEO Anton Barnett-Harris shares his commitment and vision for the Council’s work in 2026.

As we step into 2026, I’m looking forward to the Council’s contribution to healthcare in Australia. We will strengthen existing and welcome new partnerships, seeking to engage and collaborate to bring value to the healthcare workforce and the Australian physiotherapy profession.

As CEO, I am proud to lead a dedicated and excellent team of professionals, who have delivered important milestones over the past year. Our shared values as a Village are the foundation that empowers us to collaborate effectively, and serve our customers and partners.

At the start of a new year, we are focused on supporting Australia’s healthcare workforce, who everyday help transform the lives of patients across the country.

Our healthcare workforce is underpinned by new physiotherapists joining – both new Australian graduates and international physiotherapists. These new entrants bring with them diverse lived experiences, recent educational knowledge and fresh enthusiasm and commitment to their new roles.

The Council collaborates with partners across the healthcare system to enable the entry of new physiotherapists, while prioritising the safety and health of the community.

In response to a dynamic regulatory environment, we have invested in purposeful research and innovation to develop best practices and models of accrediting physiotherapy education programs and assessing international physiotherapists. This is evidenced by new Accreditation Standards and the development and launch of the new assessment model Australian Physiotherapy Entry Pathway.

In 2026 we will continue to be a trusted partner, collaborating with key stakeholders, government agencies, professional organisations, and educators to uphold physiotherapy accreditation standards and assessment processes.

We look forward to welcoming skilled international physiotherapists who demonstrate their clinical expertise and commitment as they work towards joining the Australian physiotherapy profession.

We remain committed to our reconciliation journey, including being a culturally respectful workplace and encouraging all physiotherapists to grow their culturally capabilities.

No doubt this new year of 2026 will bring both new challenges and opportunities, and we are an important cog in the regulation framework. The Council is ready and well equipped to respond and continue delivering innovative solutions.
