Australia’s healthcare workforce of the future needs strong partnerships, collaboration, planning and a shared commitment to provide communities with safe, high-quality and accessible healthcare. In Australia, the Australian Physiotherapy Council is the accreditation and assessment authority for physiotherapy and has a valuable role shaping the future healthcare workforce.

Listening to Government workforce priorities

In recent months, Council’s CEO Anton Barnett-Harris met with representatives from the offices of Health Ministers in Victoria, Queensland, Western Australia, and South Australia. We are engaging with Ministers, departments and government officials across the country to listen to workforce priorities, share insights from university accreditation and international candidate assessment, and explore Council partnering with government and healthcare stakeholders.

These meetings and engagements are helping the Council better understand priorities such as allied health supply, regional and remote access, workforce retention, skilled migration, cultural safety and readiness for practice.

Partnering with healthcare stakeholders

Whether addressing challenges of sufficient numbers of physiotherapists in rural and remote locations, retaining experienced clinicians in our workforce or educating physiotherapy students for the future healthcare needs and demands, the Council is uniquely positioned to partner with government and healthcare stakeholders.

Strong partnerships, such as those Council already has with the Physiotherapy Board of Australia, Ahpra and the Australian Physiotherapy Association, enable collective and aligned responses to healthcare workforce priorities and challenges.

In our partnerships with government and healthcare stakeholders, the Council brings data, evidence-based research, accreditation and assessment expertise, and healthcare regulation insights to strengthen public health outcomes.

Committed to Australia’s future health workforce

Our message to government is clear: the Australian Physiotherapy Council is ready to listen, collaborate and contribute to solutions that strengthen the healthcare workforce and support Australia’s future healthcare needs.
