As part of the joint statement, the Australian Physiotherapy Council is supporting stronger education, standards and safer responses to family, domestic and sexual violence (FDSV).
Building a health workforce that can recognise and respond appropriately to family, domestic and sexual violence starts with clear expectations, strong education and ongoing professional development.
As a signatory to the joint statement, the Australian Physiotherapy Council joins Ahpra, National Boards and Accreditation Authorities in recognising this capability as essential to safe, contemporary healthcare service delivery.
The Council’s role as the accreditation authority for physiotherapy means we have an important role to ensure practitioners in the workforce are equipped with the capabilities and understanding to respond to complex health and psychosocial issues, such as family, domestic and sexual violence.
We reaffirm our commitment to partnering with all stakeholders across the healthcare system to build the capability of our workforce to appropriately engage with victim-survivors of family, domestic and sexual violence.
