The Council is seeking feedback for the first draft of the revised Accreditation Standards.

Under the Accreditation Standards Review project, the Council has been reviewing the standards to accredit entry level education programs, and developing new standards against which post-graduate programs of study teaching qualified physiotherapists medicine prescribing can be accredited.

The proposed standards will be presented to the Physiotherapy Board of Australia for approval and subsequent implementation across Australia.

What evidence informed the revised standards?

Taking a holistic high-level view while recognising what works well in the current standards, the Council has used a combination of evidence-based and incremental approaches to develop this first draft.

Key evidence inputs included:

  • Literature review: physiotherapy accreditation and education including government priorities for healthcare now and in the future.
  • Focus groups: feedback from key stakeholders on the current standards and national and local priorities for accrediting authorities.
  • Benchmarking: comparing the Council’s criteria against other criteria in the National Scheme, relevant self-accrediting professions and international standards for physiotherapy. Benchmarking was used to identify potential gaps in the current standards and opportunities for improvement.

Why is the Council conducting public consultation?

We’ve used the above evidence to create the first draft of the revised Accreditation Standards. The revised standards strive to address gaps, reduce duplication and provide clarity where required.

We are creating this opportunity for public consultation to ensure we facilitate feedback from all stakeholders and reflect the best practices in Accreditation,
