The Council’s Board Director, Professor Lucy Chipchase, co-authored this recent journal article sharing findings of important research about the experiences of physiotherapists and physical therapists from Australia, the UK, Canada and the USA who identify as LGBTQIA+. The study explored the lived experiences and narratives from participants, with a view to consider how the international physiotherapy profession can take steps to become inclusive and culturally safe for all practitioners, regardless of gender and sexual orientation.

The Australian Physiotherapy Council advocates for inclusive and diverse physiotherapy workplaces and education settings, free from discrimination, extending dignity and respect to all, and that foster safety for practitioners and patients from all ages, abilities, cultures, languages, nationalities, gender identities, sexual orientations, religious faiths and beliefs.
