As the Australian Physiotherapy Council’s Chair for the past three years, it has been my pleasure and privilege to lead the Council Board.

I'm continually blown away by what the people in our organisation contribute each day to help people enter the Australian physiotherapy profession.

I specifically want to thank:

  • Our accreditation panel members who ensure the quality of physiotherapy programs around Australia adequately prepare the next generation of physiotherapists.
  • Council staff and assessors who support international physiotherapists to demonstrate their skills and capabilities in order to join the Australian physiotherapy profession.
  • Our Board directors, standing committee members and management.

We recognise our world is rapidly changing, and demands we approach challenges not as obstacles, but as opportunities for growth, innovation, and positive transformation. Our physiotherapy profession continues to face workforce pressures and increasing demand across Australia.

The Council’s work continues to help grow our domestic physiotherapy graduates, with an estimated 2,823 graduates expected to join the workforce at the end of 2024. This is a 30% increase from 2022.

The number of international physiotherapists completing our assessment pathways has also grown exponentially, with 68% more completions to date than this time last year. I am confident the Council will continue to navigate and respond to our changing landscape, without sacrificing our values and track record of innovative and strategic projects that deliver valuable service to our customers, the Australian physiotherapy profession, and the Australian community.
