The Clinical Workshop is an important milestone in the Australian Physiotherapy Entry Pathway. It is a full day, in-person, hands on assessment that gives you the opportunity to demonstrate safe, patient-centred practice in a practical setting.
Feeling nervous before an assessment is normal. Taking time to prepare can help you feel focused, organised and ready to participate.
Start with trusted preparation resources
Begin by working through the marking rubric, and official resources and learning courses available through the Council’s Candidate Portal. They are designed to help you become familiar with professional expectations, safe practice principles and the Australian healthcare context.
Prepare with purpose
Use your preparation time to focus on what you need to demonstrate to pass the assessment: clear communication, safe decisions, patient-centred care and professional judgement.
Practise how you communicate and reason
Demonstrate your clinical reasoning through effective communication. Practise seeking consent, checking understanding and adapting your communication to the patient’s needs.
Speaking your reasoning out loud can help show how you are prioritising safety.
Focus on safe, patient-centred practice
Revisit the fundamentals of safe physiotherapy practice, including manual handling, infection control, risk minimisation, patient dignity, privacy and informed consent.
Be open to feedback and reflection
The workshop is also a chance to work with peers, listen to feedback and keep building confidence to enter the Australian healthcare workforce.
What success looks like
Success is about showing readiness for safe, effective and professional physiotherapy practice through respectful communication, sound judgement and a willingness to improve.
Aim for steady, thoughtful preparation and approach the workshop with an open mind.
