Council prepares to launch our newest pathway for internationally trained physiotherapists, replacing the Standard Assessment Pathway.

From 1 October 2025, the Australian Physiotherapy Entry Pathway (APEP) will offer international physiotherapists an innovative and remote mode to assessments and entering the Australian healthcare workforce.

What is APEP?

The APEP will:

  • Increase accessibility – most of the new pathway offered via remote platforms
  • Reduce travel time and expenses
  • Provide in-person learning and interaction with an experienced Australian physiotherapist trainer and fellow peers
  • Efficiently enable international physiotherapists' entry into the Australian healthcare workforce

Key stages of the APEP:

  1. Eligibility verification & self-paced online Cultural Safety Training (CST)
  2. Online Written Assessment (also offered in several physical venues)
  3. NEW: Remote Capability Assessment – live 1.5 hour open book, oral exam, conducted 1:1 with an Australian physiotherapist examiner
  4. NEW: Face to face Clinical Workshop – full day small group training & assessment in Melbourne facility

Upcoming changes:

Current candidates completing the Standard Assessment Pathway will receive an email outlining their transition options. They will be asked to select their preferred option.

  • Early September 2025: Candidates resources will be available on the Candidate Portal to prepare for booking new assessments
  • 1 October 2025: Bookings open via Candidate Portal for new remote Capability Assessment
  • Late October 2025: Sim Clinical Assessments conclude
