In 2026, the Council will update its Assessment Committee to better align with healthcare and workforce strategies.

The Assessment Committee oversees the Council’s assessment of international qualified physiotherapists who wish to work in Australia. This new Committee is responsible for overseeing the Council's assessment models and processes, ensuring quality and monitoring performance of our assessments while also playing a strong role in advising the Board on governance matters and strategy. Eligible candidates

We are looking for suitable candidates, with majority possessing a health qualification (not specific to physiotherapy). Candidates must be able to demonstrate both expertise and experience in the following areas:

Essential Criteria

  • Proven governance experience, particularly as a director or as a member of a board committee.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the National Scheme, including its structure and priorities.
  • Strong collaborative skills and the ability to effectively communicate within diverse teams and stakeholder groups.

Other requirements

In addition to the above requirements, the Council aims to ensure that, collectively, the committee covers the following areas of expertise. Applicants should demonstrate experience in one or more of the following:

  • Upholding fairness, transparency, and defensibility in assessment processes
  • Understanding international assessment frameworks for health professionals
  • Familiarity with contemporary models of assessment
  • Expertise in the implementation of cultural safety within health or education settings, and how this applies to candidates and the Australian community
  • Experience in identifying and mitigating financial risks within operational and strategic planning.

Expectations of a committee member

This position involves serving a three-year term on the Council’s Assessment Committee. The Committee typically meets 4 to 5 times per year, one face to face meeting, and the other meetings conducted via teleconference.
